We had a fantastic stay at this hostel. The rooms were small but had everything we needed, including a comfortable bed and a small table for our laptop. The bathroom was also small but had a convenient shower. The staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to assist us, even when our phone died and they had to let us in. The location was excellent, with the city center within walking distance and easy access to public transportation.
Nothing could have been better.

The Self Check In City Hostel Nordstern provided a large bed in the room, which was comfortable and spacious. The shared bathroom was clean and well-maintained, and although it was shared, it was easily accessible and never crowded. the database mentioned a kitchen that we could use, which was a convenient feature for those who wanted to prepare their own meals.
One minor issue was the lack of staff presence during our stay. We never saw any staff members, which made it difficult to ask questions or address any concerns.

Always stay at my go-to hostel. No regrets. Staff recommended great places to eat, never forget. Has everything I need: Wi-Fi, off-site car park, flat-screen TV, express/VIP check-in/out, board games. Coming back for a romantic escape.

The rooms at Stadt Hostel Nordstern are really nice, I loved how they were designed. It felt cozy and comfortable, perfect after a long day of exploring. The bunk beds in the multi-bed rooms were great, they came in different sizes which was really convenient for our group. We all had a good night's sleep. I also liked that the multi-bed rooms could be booked as private rooms. It was nice to have our own space when we needed it. Some of the rooms had views of the garden or the city, which was a nice bonus. Waking up to a beautiful view was a great way to start the day. The fact that all the rooms were newly renovated was a big plus. It made the whole place feel fresh and modern.
Personally, I wasn't a big fan of the shared kitchen. It felt a bit cramped and not very well-equipped.

Excellent location, 15 min walk to city center, Christmas market, and main train station. Good price, comfortable bed, clean shower and toilet, with daily cleaning. Easy self check-in/out. Bus/tram schedules and old brochures in room. Great for overnight stay, not recommended for longer stays.

The check-in process was super easy and the staff was really helpful. The room was small but clean, and we loved the garden view with all the fish in the pond. The shower was great, with shampoo and shower gel provided. it was a nice hostel for a fun trip with friends.
The only thing we wished for was a more lively atmosphere for young party-goers. While the hostel was calm and quiet, we were hoping for some more socializing and fun activities specifically geared towards young people.

The vibrant life on the edge of the Ruhr area is just a stone's throw away. It's like having the energy of a bustling city right at your doorstep. The museum railway, whose history is closely linked to Essen's mining industry, offers a unique and fascinating experience. All guestrooms at Stadt Hostel Nordstern offer amenities such as free WiFi, ensuring that you stay connected throughout your stay. The premises are non-smoking zones, providing a clean and fresh environment for all guests. The nearest airport, Dusseldorf International Airport, is easily accessible, making your arrival and departure hassle-free.
The room smelled like smoke when we entered.

I absolutely loved the cozy and welcoming atmosphere of the hotel. The decor had a charming vintage touch, with beautiful antique furniture and floral patterns that reminded me of my younger days. It felt like stepping back in time and brought back fond memories. The general areas were well-maintained and clean, making it easy for me to navigate around the hotel. The hotel's accessibility for senior people was top-notch. The hallways were wide enough to accommodate walkers or wheelchairs, and there were grab bars in the bathrooms to provide extra support. It really made me feel comfortable and safe during my stay.
If I had to ask for one improvement for a better vacation for senior people, it would be to have the children working there provide a little more assistance or guidance. Sometimes, as a senior, it can be overwhelming to navigate a new place or understand all the rules and amenities.

Great location! Just a short walk to the city center, Christmas market, and the main train station. Supermarkets and a tram station were also nearby, making it convenient for exploring the city. The room was clean and comfortable, with a comfortable bed and a clean shower and toilet. The check-in and checkout process was smooth and easy, with keys available in a box. It was also nice to have schedules for buses and trams displayed on the wall, along with some informational brochures in the room.
The condition of the building could be improved. There were several areas in need of repair, such as loose tiles in the shower and walls in desperate need of painting.

The hostel's location in Essen's city center is fantastic, with plenty of shops and the impressive Lichtburg cinema nearby. The Museum Folkwang is a highlight, boasting its own collection of modern and contemporary art. The rooms at the hostel are beautiful and affordable, ensuring a comfortable stay. The option to have a launderette available is a thoughtful touch. The goal of providing a temporary home with a green soul in the heart of the city is commendable.
Poor condition of the building.

C'era un aspetto negativo riguardo all'hotel. Nonostante puoi portare gli animali domestici con un supplemento, l'hotel non forniva alcun servizio aggiuntivo come ciotole o cuccia.
